Doing Right by the 8 Mathematical Practices

We cannot simply "teach" the Standards for Mathematical Practice (MPs); they are for students to experience and internalize through meaningful engagement. During this session, you will discover supports to:

  • Offer Opportunities: Design activities and tasks that allow students to naturally engage with the MPs.
  • Embed Instructional Routines: Use consistent and effective teaching strategies that promote critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Speak the Language of the MPs: Regularly use the language and habits of mind associated with the MPs to reinforce their importance.
